One Room Challenge (Week 8): Superhero Room Reveal

After 8 weeks of hard work and excitement, reveal day is finally here! I have been looking forward to creating this space for a very long time and I have thoroughly enjoyed watching my vision come to life.

Before we get to the the big reveal, let’s quickly take a peek back at how this space looked 8 weeks ago when this challenge first began.

We created a woodland themed bedroom when he was two years old to transition him from the crib, and although he still has his love for animals four years later, he has been begging us for a new room. Since he likes superheroes so much, I knew that it would be the perfect new theme.

I designed this mood board to put together all of my ideas that I had.

And without further ado, let’s step on in to the new room!

The real star of the room is his new loft bed. He had originally requested a traditional bunk bed like his brother’s, however I was nervous about the idea of him having a super high bed since he is so rambunctios! We agreed that this one was a good compromise since it came with a slide and a fun little area to play underneath.

We used the space underneath to create a fun little reading zone.

The chair is actually filled with all of his many stuffed animals, so it doubles in function! The LED lights that we added underneath are a fun addition and provide the perfect amount of cozy light for reading.

We installed this accent light above the bed, but rather than hiring an electrician to hardwire it we simply routed the cord behind the drywall and plugged it in to the wall outlet.

Okay, let’s swing over to his new desk area.

After a long search I decided on this desk and it couldn’t be more perfect for this room!

The built-in shelf along the back is great for storing all of his art utensils and the little shelves that I added to the wall hold his superhero figurines.

Lucas had requested a gold lamp for his desk and when I found this one I instantly fell for the sleek vintage style design.

Since the desk doesn’t have any drawers, I decided to add this small metal stand that I found at IKEA and it ended up holding these rope baskets nicely.

I let Lucas have full reign on choosing an accent wall color and he went with Lazy Caterpillar by Behr. It’s a cheerful vibrant green and it looks amazing next to the new faux brick wall.

I kept his old toybox for storage and recovered the cushion with some black and white superhero fabric.

The posters above the toybox are a nice focal point and the LED bat light provides a beautiful glow at night.

And finally, let’s hope over to the last wall.

The dresser is the same one that he had before, but it received a new look with a wood top, black paint and gold pulls.

I decided to use the space behind the door to hang a bulletin board for his creations.

The pipe shelving that we installed above the dresser provides plenty of storage and I made sure to add a few superhero decor pieces to flow with the rest of the room.

I am pretty confident that these shelves will not stay this neatly organized because Lucas will surely be putting his own touches on it very soon–as he should haha!

On the other side of the dresser is Lucas’ favorite spot in this whole room–his swinging hammock chair!

After we installed the swing, the wall was feeling mighty bare, so I decided that some skyscrapers would look really cool there. Once I realized how expensive the large decal skyscrapers were, I decided to DIY the big ones with paint and then added these ones in the front.

It ended up looking like the painted ones are in the distance and I absolutely love how it turned out.

His room turned out even better than I had imagined that it would, and it was so much fun to piece it all together with him!
