Well hello there my friends, I hope you all had wonderful Christmas! I know, I know, after I shared the Christmas home tour it seemed like I dropped off the face of the Earth! Totally not what I had intended. In fact I actually had a couple of more posts that I wanted to share before Christmas, but I came down with back to back illnesses and I just barely got it together to make Christmas happen haha!
But I’m finally on the mend and am excited to be back today to wish you all a Happy New Year’s Eve! Holy moly, can you believe that 2019 is already almost over?? This year certainly brought a few struggles with it, but it also brought a lot of wonderful moments and overall I have to admit that it was a pretty good year.
To celebrate 2019 to the fullest I’m going to share the top 10 posts from the year. I started this little tradition two years ago and I discovered that I absolutely love looking back and seeing at what you guys loved the most and it makes me feel pretty darn proud when I realize all that I have accomplished over the past year!
So let’s get to it!
10. Outdated Shower Industrial Style Makeover
When I decided to tackle our master bathroom to give it a budget refresh, I knew that I had to do something with the outdated shower. Using spray paint and some trim I gave it an industrial window pane look. And since I also painted the grout, it feels like we have a brand new shower for a very small fraction of the cost!
9. DIY Valentine’s Day Pillow Covers Using Sweaters
This year I decided to add a little bit more Valentine’s Day decor around the house. I picked up a couple of sweaters from the Goodwill in colors that fit my neutral style and used them to create these fun pillow covers.
They were a cheerful additions and I’m excited to bust them out again after I pack away all of the Christmas stuff tomorrow. Yes, I’m just as bad as the big box stores by immediately bringing out the next holiday as soon as one is over–no shame haha!
8. 3 Dollar Tree Pumpkin Makeovers
This fall I wanted to add a few more pumpkins to my collection but I didn’t want to spend a ton. I picked up these guys from the Dollar Tree and gave them little makeovers using paint and fabric. I also grabbed some branches from the yard to replace the cheapo plastic stems and when I was done it was hard to believe that they came from the dollar store!
7. Thrifted Brass Lamp Makeover
We had been wanting a lamp in this corner for what seemed like ages, but I couldn’t really find what I wanted for the price that we were willing to spend. So I picked up a cheap brass lamp from the Goodwill and after a paint and wax treatment it looks exactly like aged wood. Seriously, I doubt anyone is able to tell the difference–unless they read my blog of course… 😉
6. Thrifted Candlestick to Farmhouse Pedestal Tray
This guy was one that I actually threw together pretty mindlessly. It turned out to be one of my most used pieces throughout the seasons and I can’t believe that I didn’t make something like this sooner.
5. DIY Concrete Countertops
Ahhh the concrete countertops! Ever since the first time I read about using skim coats of concrete on counters I’ve been intrigued. So when I needed a budget friendly solution for the master bathroom vanity, I decided to finally try it out. We plan to get a new vanity eventually, so I figured that I had absolutely nothing to lose if they didn’t turn out. The results were fantastic and I’m happy to report that they are still holding up great and getting a new vanity got pushed waaaay down on the the priority list because I’m pretty dang happy with this one now!
4. Industrial Farmhouse Bathroom Refresh on a Budget
The master bathroom budget refresh is one of my favorite room makeovers to date, second only to the kitchen. It was challenging to find ways to use what we already had but I am so impressed with how it all came together.
3. Faux Wood Makeover on Basement Stairs
When we decided to keep the door off of the basement it was decided that something had to be done about the gross looking steps. One day we’ll replace the treads entirely, but in the meantime my trusty faux wood method came to the rescue and the view down to the basement is no longer quite an eyesore.
2. Thrifted Magazine Holder to Flower Market Basket
This was such an easy flip that I almost didn’t share it. But I’m so glad that I did because the feedback on it was awesome and many of you told me how you were inspired to do the same to magazine holders that you had been hanging on to, which of course totally warmed my heart and reminded me why I keep going on this little old blog–to inspire!
1. Flat Panel Budget Door Makeover
And finally, the number one post of 2019…the flat door makeover! In case you don’t already know, garage entry doors are crazy expensive. We are slowly replacing all of the orange flat panel doors throughout the house with white ones, but when it came to this one there was no way that we could justify spending close to $600 when the existing door was perfectly functional. So we added some plywood, painted it, installed a new knob and voilà - a new(ish) door!
Wow, what a wonderfully productive year! I get excited just thinking about what this post will entail next year. Hopefully those pesky carpeted stairs will be no more. The carpet is in such bad shape that I actually took a nasty slide down them on Saturday and I’m still hurting. Safe to say it served good motivation to get our butts in gear on those haha!
I hope you all have a fun and safe New Year’s Eve. See ya in the next decade!!!
