Happy New Year’s Eve—I hope you all had a nice Christmas! Ours was wonderful and it seemed to pass by too way quickly.
Isn’t it crazy that the year is already almost over? Each year I like to reflect back on my top posts from the year, but this year I am going to switch it up a bit. Instead, I am going to take a look back at what we accomplished this year!
January
In January I finally tackled an area that had always been a chaotic mess–our dreaded medicine cabinet! I completely redesigned how we used the space and created a new system that worked. In case you missed it you can read all about it in this post—Pretty Medicine Cabinet Makeover.
February
In February I moved on to another project that I had on my mind for awhile which was adding some trim to our staircase wall. Originally, I wanted to only focus on the actual staircase wall, but I ultimately decided to wrap it all the way around to the other side and am so happy with how it turned out! I shared the process in this post–Board and Batten Wrapped Accent Wall Reveal.
March
By the time spring got closer I started thinking about what space I wanted to tackle for the One Room Challenge. I didn’t have much of a budget, but I did have a lot of unused furniture sitting around, so I decided to flip them to see if I could create a bigger budget!
April
I used the budget that I created from the furniture to work on our master bathroom to give it a little refresh. It’s still in need of a full gut one day, but I was able to make it a lot better than it was. I updated all of the existing fixtures with inexpensive fixes like marble contact paper counters covered with epoxy and peel and stick floor tiles.
May
I continued working on our bathroom and the final result was amazing! You can catch the full reveal in this post—Master Bathroom Refresh.
June
I have always enjoyed working on furniture flipping for our own home, but this was the first time that I really started focusing on creating pieces for others. Since I had such success in March I decided to continue furniture flipping to create a budget for a nice fall break vacation.
July
I had intended to only work on furniture in June so that I could start painting the basement ceiling in July, however I found myself finding piece after piece to work on!
Burlap Drawer Dresser Makeover
August
I kept the furniture momentum going but I took a quick pause to add decals to our stair case and wireless picture lights which added so much charm! You can read about the new additions in this post—Adding Stair Decals.
September
I continued my focus on…you guessed it—more furniture!
October
We took our fall break trip and had such a great time! We started by spending a couple days at Legoland.
Then headed over to Carlsbad State Beach and stayed at a rental right next to the beach!
November
Even with the earlier sunsets and colder temps, I found a way to still work on furniture in the garage. The hubby got a bright overhead light and I used a space heater to help keep me and the drying paint warm!
December
Somehow I managed to work on furniture, get us ready for Christmas, enjoy our annual traditions, decorated the house (including all 8 of our trees) AND keep my sanity…well somewhat haha.
Goals for the New Year
My goal for 2024 is to keep expanding my furniture flipping experience, however I would like to incorporate more home DIYs like I used to! The first thing that I want to do is a total revamp on our front closet.
Hiding behind that door is a space that’s impossible to keep organized and we are in desperate need a better system.
I also want to give our master bedroom a refresh because we are way overdue for some new bedding, rug and furniture!
It may look nice in this picture but up close the bedding is flat and discolored, the rug is worn beyond cleaning and the furniture is starting to fall apart. Luckily I know a girl that could probably refinish most of it 😉
And finally, I want to get the basement ceiling painted. I’ve tried to make our unfinished basement as cozy as possible, but the plywood ceiling needs to go!
I plan to tape everything off and spray it matte black for a cool industrial vibe. It’s going to be messy but worth it. We will need to wait for nicer weather so we can keep the windows open for proper ventilation!
I hope you all have a very happy and safe new year—see you in 2024!
